The final LINEA webinar for 2019 will share results from a LINEA systematic review on the social norms linked to the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents worldwide. Five thousand articles later, we are ready to present our findings!

The review team identified 55 papers, representing 49 studies, conducted in 37 countries, and including over 14,000 participants, published between 2009 and 2019. Our analysis revealed two universal social norms:

  • sexually exploited young people are stigmatised by their communities,
  • while the perpetrators of sexual exploitation are not.

This presentation will describe these methods and findings in more detail, including more context-specific social norms and the attitudes and factual beliefs that underpin them. Additionally, the implications and recommendations coming from this encompassing and complex systematic review will be discussed.

The systematic review manuscript is currently under review: Buller, A.M., Pichon, M., McAlpine, A., Cislaghi, B., Heise, L., Meiksin, R. Systematic review of social norms, attitudes, and factual beliefs linked to the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.
