2018 Alliance Annual Meeting in Review

27 Nov 2018
The Alliance

The Alliance held its 1-day Annual Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya on 17 October 2018, conjoining the Alliance-INEE Roundtable. Approximately 150 practitioners from a wide range of agencies were in attendance.

UNICEF Global Chief of Child Protection, Cornelius Williams, opened the meeting with a review of the Alliance's achievements over the past year. Immediately following, David Wright, Regional Director East and Southern Africa at Save the Children International, officially closed the organization's two-year term of co-leadership of the Alliance by transferring the role to Plan International. Jorgen Haldorsen, Disaster Risk Management Director for Plan International, accepted co-leadership and committed to advancing the work that had been started.

The sessions began with an overview of the 2018-2020 Strategic Plan and related commitments. Sessions were held on specific aspects of the Strategic Plan, including knowledge management, preparedness and response, evidence-based programming, and localization.

During the "Working Group/Task Force Carousel," Alliance Working Groups and Task Forces presented new and emerging technical resources, upcoming events, and training opportunities. Participants had the opportunity to visit booths for each group, listen to presentations, view new resources, and ask questions about the groups' work throughout the year.

In the days after the annual meeting, each WG/TF met in individual meetings to review their individual work plans and gain consensus on ways forward.
