Agribusiness Plus Parenting Classes Cuts Child Maltreatment in Tanzania

A program in Tanzania has recently shown that combining agribusiness and parenting classes reduces child maltreatment rates more than just agribusiness classes alone. The parenting classes focus on positive discipline, communication skills, and intra-family relationships while the agribusiness classes are intended to increase crop production while reducing economic insecurity. The project was implemented by ICS Africa and the government of Tanzania. It has reached more than 60,000 children so far. Similar programs have been implemented in Kenya and a pilot program has also started in Côte d'Ivoire.
