In order to make communication with and between children, parents, governmental officials, professionals and volunteers working with or for children as effective and respectful as possible, ECPAT established an Interagency Working Group for the drafting of this set of terminology guidelines for the protection of children from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse. The purpose of these guidelines is to provide all individuals and agencies working for the prevention and elimination of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children with information for understanding and use of the different terms and concepts that may be encountered in their work.
