Job type:

Service Design and Technical Support Advisor (SDTS)
Circa £33,000 per annum

Named after the light-giving spell in Harry Potter, Lumos is an international children’s organisation founded by J.K. Rowling in 2005. We have a bold mission: to have a world without institutions and orphanages by 2050. Research shows the dramatic harm that institutional care causes to children and the proven benefits of the alternatives: community and family care. Lumos tackles the root causes of family separation – poverty, trafficking and discrimination – and transforms care systems around the world. We speak up on behalf of children trapped in institutions and reunite them with their families. And we change education, health and social care systems so every child can thrive.

Transforming Care is an all-encompassing process involving the closure of child care institutions, the development of community-based services to support families, the transition of children into family and community-based care settings, the prevention of family separation, and many other related areas such as the transfer of resources, workforce development, communications and other components to developing and maintaining a sustainable care systems that promotes well-being and inclusion for all children. Lumos implements demonstration projects which model the transforming care process in diverse contexts; including low, middle and high-income countries as well as developing, transitioning and complex emergency contexts. The Service Design and Technical Support Team provides advice on project design for demonstration programmes and technical expertise to a wide variety of stakeholders involved in transforming care process.

The SDTS Advisor will be supporting the design, development, and quality assurance of Lumos' demonstration programmes, as well as external stakeholders, including governments, civil society and service providers, that are considering or are going through the process of care transformation.

This support involves the design, development and quality assurance of services and strategies, and is provided through a combination of training, in-depth technical advice and the development of technical resources and toolkits.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work with a wide variety of contacts and be able to represent Lumos credibly at the highest levels in relationships with external contacts, especially those representing overseas Government Ministries or other institutions.

The post holder will have sound ICT skills and strong technical expertise related to transforming care within children’s services. You will be required to lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams to meet or exceed delivery targets and achieve client satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have experience of delivering complex long-term programmes to high quality standards and within budget.

You must be able to demonstrate significant experience of care transformation, or in related areas (such as health and social care, child protection and safeguarding and/or inclusive education, etc) in a trainer, technical or practitioner position and therefore experience of delivering training and/or technical advice for the position is essential.

Right to Work:

If you do not already have the right to work in the UK, please think carefully before applying. This is because even if the role is sufficiently skilled to qualify for sponsorship, we will be unable to sponsor you if there is a suitably qualified settled worker available to fill the role (this is known as the ‘resident labour market test’) unless you are currently in the UK and your immigration status and qualifications mean that the resident labour market test will not apply in your case.

Lumos is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and criminal records checks where legally permitted.
