Türkiye: Protection & GBV Officer
Job Purpose:
The Protection officer will assist the management of the Protection Programs for people affected by conflict, including Child Protection (CP), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Psychosocial Support (PSS), Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), as well as other Protection activities, and assist with undertaking protection mainstreaming, awareness and sufficient safeguarding policies and internal controls to ensure the protection of beneficiaries, staff and stakeholders, and adherence to protection principles across all departments and programs of SDI.
The main protection activities include, but not limited to, Child-Friendly Spaces, Youth Empowerment Program, parenting skill sessions, CP and GVB case management, providing services and support (in-kind and cash) for GBV survivors, Women Engagement Program/Women Centers, PSS in education centers, MHPSS support and case management, and training for first responders on protection topics like Psychological First Aid, GBV Guiding Principles, and Child Protection Minimum Standards, as well as for specialized service providers.
Program Management:
The role involves assisting in leading the development and implementation of various protection programs, conducting ongoing monitoring, and adapting designs to meet beneficiary needs. Responsibilities include providing technical support, participating in program planning, managing budgets and resources, enhancing accountability systems, and leading capacity-building for the Protection Department. The individual will also oversee internal and external reporting, proposal development, and representation in technical working groups. Maintaining program files and the confidentiality of beneficiary data is crucial.
Protection Mainstreaming:
The role involves supporting the development of prevention and community-based mechanisms for protection, including referral systems. Leading capacity-building efforts for SDI, the individual focuses on training specialized and non-specialized staff on protection, GBV, and PSEAH. Responsibilities also include monitoring project impact, ensuring protection mainstreaming, gender inclusion, and conducting regular assessments to comply with IASC standards. The Protection Mainstreaming officer ensures coordination and complementarity between the Protection Department and other organizational units.
Coordination:
The role involves building strong coordination within and across Protection sub-sectors, participating in internal meetings, supporting bilateral coordination with various actors, and representing Protection programs externally. Ensuring sectoral representation with authorities and local actors, the individual identifies and advocates for key protection concerns, sharing patterns and trends in coordination forums.
Reporting:
Responsibilities include preparing and submitting monthly, periodic, and final reports on projects and protection mainstreaming. The role involves following up with support departments to issue required reports for submission to donors and SDI management.

Actions of Child abuse and exportation violate the universally recognized international legal norms and standards. Thus, SDI considers such actions as serious misconduct, which will constitute grounds for major measures, including summary dismissal and criminal prosecution. SDI prohibits sexual exploitation and abuse of Children, and proved cases of such will be met with Zero tolerance by SDI management.
SDI is an organization working with vulnerable populations, including children, both directly and indirectly. Thus, SDI has a moral responsibility and a duty to protect children within the population that we serve from both intentional and unintentional harm. SDI understands that all staff needs to be aware of this policy even though many of the staff may never have unaccompanied contact with children or young people through their work. It is not possible to eliminate risk entirely, but we are obliged to develop strategies and mechanisms to reduce the risk.
SDI Commitment on Protection of Sexual Exportation and Abuse - PSEA:
The actions of SEA violate the universally recognized international legal norms and standards. Thus, SDI considers such actions as serious misconduct, which will constitute grounds for major measures, including summary dismissal and criminal prosecution. SDI prohibits sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA), and proven cases of such will be met with Zero tolerance by SDI management.
To the end of the meeting with the fundamental values of SDI, this policy is designed to address the behavior of SDI staff, and its collaborators toward the served population and to protect vulnerable populations within the communities served by SDI from any acts of sexual exploitation and abuse which is considered as an element of the accountability that SDI holds towards the served communities.
SDI Commitment on Protection of Sexual Harassments and Discrimination - PSHH:
The actions of SHH violate the ethical norms and damage the team spirit. Thus, SDI considers such actions as serious misconduct, which will constitute grounds for major measures, including summary dismissal and criminal prosecution if relevant. SDI prohibits SHH, and proven cases of such will be met with Zero tolerance by SDI management.
To the end of the meeting with the fundamental values of SDI, this policy is designed to address the behavior of SDI staff and its collaborators towards one another and to protect staff within the environment of SDI from any acts of sexual harassment and harassment, which is considered as an element of the accountability that SDI holds towards its staff.
Safeguarding:
- The position holder is required to commit to SDI's safeguarding policy, as we will do rigorous background checks to ensure that children are protected from any kind of abuse.
- The position holder is also required to carry out his duties in accordance with SDI anti-harassment policy.
Qualifications:
Skills and Requirements:
- University degree in social science, law, or psychology.
- Minimum three years of work experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least two years of experience in Protection.
- Experience in Protection, overall and in sub-sectors of Child Protection, GBV, and/or MHPSS, including in conflict settings and with IDPs and refugees.
- Preferably an experience in education, PSS, and/or other activities involving the work with children.
- English and Arabic language proficiency is required, and knowledge of Turkish is an advantage.
