In 2020, 36 million children were living outside of their country of birth. About one third of these children were refugees and asylum seekers.

No matter where children and young people are in their migration journey- whether in transit or at destination- it is vital that their sense of belonging and integration is supported through the provision of equitable care, development and protection for the duration of their stay.

This toolkit aims to support practitioners to enhance integration support and services, helping to ensure that children and young people are provided with support and protection that fosters their development and well-being in a way that is equal and equitable to the way that the development and well-being of children that are citizens of the country are fostered.

Family’s model of integration contains six dimensions for supporting a child or young person in a holistic way: Foundations; Autonomy, Personal Capacities, Environment, Social Connections and Sustainability.

This online toolkit includes practitioner toolboxes, resources, good practice examples, ‘top tips’ from children on the move, and a series of videos from practitioners and organisations from around the world sharing their practice on supporting children on the move.
