What will you learn?

The Inter-Agency Toolkit: Preventing and Responding to Child Labour in Humanitarian Action and accompanying learning package were released by the Child Labour Task Force in 2022. The Child Labour Task Force of the Alliance in collaboration with the Global CP AoR would like to offer you a free, online learning opportunity to further explore the guidance and tools to strengthen overall understanding of preventing and responding to child labour in humanitarian action. The course will provide an introduction to child labour in humanitarian action and will allow you to reflect on how the IA toolkit is relevant to your context. 

What will you achieve?

By the end of the online course you will be able to: 

  • Define child labour, worst forms of child labour and its impact in humanitarian crisis
  • Explain strategies to prevent and respond to CL and give examples of how these may be applicable in your own context 
  • Describe actions to integrate child labour in humanitarian/child protection programming

Learning on this course: 

The course is free and comprises 4 sessions run in English which are compulsory to get a certificate. Sessions will not be recorded and learning resources will be shared prior to the online training.

  • Objectives and Expectations  
  • Defining Child Labour in Humanitarian Action
  • Legal framework for child labour
  • What we need to know about child labour in humanitarian action

Thursday January 19th | 10:00 CET – 12:30 CET: 

  • Coordinating with key stakeholders
  • Risks and protective factors associated with child labour
  • Identifying children that are in child labour through humanitarian services
  • Advocacy messages 

Tuesday January 24th | 10:00 CET – 12:30 CET: 

  • Social and gender norms and child labour
  • Involving children in/at risk of child labour in community led activities
  • Strengthening family and caregivers’ environments

Thursday January 26th | 10:00 CET – 12:30 CET: 

  • Group activities for children at risk or in child labour
  • Case Management for children at risk/in child labour
  • Challenges and Opportunities for CL in HA
  •  Conclusions, key resources and evaluation 

The sessions will be delivered remotely via Teams and will comprise presentations, group works and individual activities. Iteration of the course in Arabic has already happened and is already being planned in Spanish.

Who is this course for?

Child protection in humanitarian action and child protection in development settings professionals from Governments, UN agencies, International Non-Governmental Organisations, Local Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations etc., are invited to express their interest for this course.  In particular, CPiE Specialists, CPiE Advisors, CPiE Managers, CPiE Coordinators of local, national or regional organisations working or interested in the prevention and response to child labour in humanitarian action in the regions of Asia and the Pacific and East and Southern Africa.
