Your role

As part of the Programme Quality Team, the Education in Emergencies Advisor is responsible for supporting the strategic direction for War Child UK’s Education related work in line with the global strategy and theory of change, and providing guidance and technical support to WCUK supported education and Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs in a wide range of conflict settings.

The Advisor provides hands-on support to WCUK country teams to develop, position and implement education programmes in conflict affected contexts from acute emergencies to protracted humanitarian crises, to longer term system building. The focus is on ensuring that teams and partners have the skills and capacity to meet technical quality standards in our education work, and that the organisation is able to achieve and evidence outcomes and impact in our work based on sound technical design. The selected candidate would be responsible for developing toolkits/guidance documents to support to our country programmes in providing quality Education and ECD programming. The role includes field work though both deployments and capacity building missions to WCUK Country Offices to be planned with the Head of Programme Quality and likely to form short-term 3 trips throughout year of around two weeks. This will be informed by country office needs and budget. In addition, it’s likely the advisor would need to attend short sectoral coordination meetings that may be within the UK or abroad.

The Advisor plays a crucial role in ensuring that War Chid is active and well represented on external coordination fora, and in initiatives to develop WCUK's leadership and profile globally. Representation on NGO, UN and donor networks is an important feature of the role, ensuring that War Child is effectively networked across the sector, and that our programmes learn from the experience of others.

The Advisor will also collaborate with teams to develop strategies and proposals for the country programmes, providing essential technical expertise in programme design and assuring that our interventions meet sector quality standards.
