Overview:
IBTCI is looking for Technical Experts in the areas of Health, WASH, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, HIV/AIDS, Supplies. Each Technical Expert will serve as a subject matter specialist in their respective field.They will provide technical guidance, support, and expertise to project teams, partners, and stakeholders to ensure effective program implementation and achievement of desired outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in their area of expertise, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in similar roles within humanitarian or development settings. Experience working with UNICEF or other UN agencies in the relevant sector is desirable. Fluency in English and French languages is preferred, along with excellent writing skills.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and interventions related to the assigned sector (e.g., Health, WASH, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, etc.).
- Conduct assessments, research, and analysis to identify needs, gaps, and opportunities for intervention within the sector.
- Develop technical guidelines, protocols, and standards for program implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, in collaboration with project teams and partners.
- Support capacity building efforts for project staff, partners, and government counterparts on technical aspects of program planning, implementation, and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations, to foster coordination and integration of sector-specific interventions.
- Provide technical input and guidance for the development of project proposals, budgets, and work plans, ensuring alignment with sectoral priorities and best practices.
- Monitor and evaluate program activities and outcomes, and contribute to the generation of evidence and learning to inform decision-making and programmatic adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with sector-specific standards, guidelines, and ethical principles in all aspects of program implementation and service delivery.
- Represent the organization in technical working groups, forums, and meetings related to the assigned sector, both internally and externally.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field (e.g., Health, WASH, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, etc.).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in similar roles within humanitarian or development settings.
- Experience working with UNICEF or other UN agencies in the relevant sector is desirable.
- Fluency in English and French languages is desirable.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively.
- Ability and willingness to be mobile and agile at a moment’s notice in case of an emergency required.
- Ability and willingness to work for extended periods in insecure and diverse environments.
- Ability and willingness to safely enter and exit a larger, armored SUV vehicle that is several feet off the ground without assistance, while wearing body armor and/or a heavy flak jacket.
- In case of an emergency situation, must be able and willing to “duck and seek cover”, which may require the individual to exit the vehicle, unaided, and hurriedly seek shelter elsewhere, as needed, in the event of a roadside emergency.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field (e.g., Health, WASH, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, HIVA/AIDS, Supplies)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of sector-specific issues, challenges, and best practices within the humanitarian and development context.
- Familiarity with UNICEF program areas and initiatives related to the assigned sector.
- Experience in program design, implementation, and evaluation, with a focus on evidence-based interventions and approaches.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply technical expertise to practical programmatic solutions.
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams, and to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of relevant sector-specific guidelines, standards, and protocols, and ability to ensure compliance with them in program activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting gender equality, inclusion, and human rights in program design and implementation.
- Certification or training in relevant technical areas is an asset.
Physical Requirements:
- This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Travel: International travel may be required and may include travel to fragile and/or conflict-prone zones.
