Child Protection and COVID-19

From the earliest stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alliance found itself at the forefront of supporting child protection practitioners across the world to adapt to the realities of the world under COVID-19. In March 2020, the Alliance formed an inter-agency task team to produce and disseminate technical guidance, advocacy materials, best practices, and other resources on how best to protect children despite the COVID-19 pandemic. By the end of 2021, The Alliance had produced 95 knowledge products on child protection and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Impact of COVID-19 School Closures on Child Protection and Education Inequalities in Three Humanitarian Contexts

During 2021 and 2022, the Alliance and the Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE), commissioned Proteknôn Foundation for Innovation and Learning to conduct participatory research across three humanitarian settings—Lebanon, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Colombia—to explore the impact of COVID-19 school closures on child protection and educational inequalities.

Strengthening Capacity of CPHA Practitioners to Respond in Times of COVID-19

In 2021, the L&D Working Group created a special resource hub to better equip CPHA practitioners to adapt child protection programming in the context of COVID-19 and other IDOs. The hub includes learning modules, tools, an online learning series, and a webinar series that can be adapted to emerging IDO’s in various contexts.

2020 Annual Meeting on Protecting Children during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The 2020 Annual Meeting marked the first virtual Annual Meeting and focused on Infectious Disease Outbreaks and the Protection of Children. Over the course meeting, the Alliance held several plenary events and thematic sessions, as well as discussion with participants on how they are responding to the needs of children during the COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious disease outbreaks.
