Home-based/Ukraine: Ukraine Response Project Manager

We are seeking an exceptional Project Manager to oversee the implementation of War Child Ukraine project(s) to ensure impact, quality program implementation, and delivery. The role plays a key coordination role between project teams while managing donor-funded project(s) and working closely with local partners on implementing War Child’s evidence-based interventions & tools and scaling.

The project manager will be involved in day-to-day problem solving, capacity strengthening, and working with local partners to lead on project’s compliance, monthly and quarterly budget, and reporting processes, while also ensuring effective internal communication between the Ukraine Response team and project’s implementing partners.

What You'll Do:

1. Project Management and Coordination:

  • Direct Program Management: Establish key project management tools, systems, and processes
  • Grant Management: Lead grant management efforts and monitoring in collaboration with the finance team and project implementing partners.
  • Risk Management: Conduct due diligence and risk management for all project aspects.
  • Implementation and Monitoring: Coordinate the implementation, monitoring, and closure of projects, ensuring that all activities are executed to the highest standards.
  • Timely Reporting: Ensure that financial and narrative reports are completed on time and meet donor expectations.
  • Operational Planning: Oversee operational planning, including budgeting and activity planning, to align resources with project goals.
  • Donor Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for all project-related correspondence with donors, maintaining transparency and strong communication.

2. Capacity Building:

  • Technical Assistance: Provide capacity building and technical assistance to local partners .
  • Stakeholder Communication: Regularly update various stakeholders on project implementation progress.
  • Performance Assessment: Assess project performance continuously to identify areas for improvement.
  • Grant Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the grant management policy and implement strategies.

3. Integrity, Program Quality & Compliance:

  • Core Values: Act in accordance with War Child’s core values of creativity, inspiration, impact, and integrity, embedding these principles into all project activities.
  • Compliance Awareness: Maintain an up-to-date understanding of institutional donor compliance requirements related to project grants.
  • Quality Standards: Work closely with Technical Advisors to ensure that program quality standards are consistently met by all implementing partners.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor compliance with applicable donor rules and regulations, promptly reporting any potential breaches.

What you will bring:

  • Project Management Skills: Experience in planning, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of programs.
  • Financial Skills: Proficient in budget and grant management, donor reporting, and compliance.
  • Relevant Education: Degree in social sciences, community development, child rights, social work, education, or management.
  • Capacity Building Experience: Proven ability to strengthen the capabilities of local partners.
  • Project Implementation Expertise: Demonstrated experience in at least two areas such as Child Protection, Psychosocial Support, Education, or Cash assistance.
  • Language Proficiency: Full professional proficiency in English.
  • Financial Management: Experience in sound budgeting and financial oversight.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in diverse environments.

About War Child:

War Child, an international humanitarian organization and the specialist charity for children affected by war across 15 conflict-affected countries, established local partnerships in Moldova, Romania, Hungary, and Ukraine in 2022 to address the challenges faced by children and caregivers affected by the full-scale war in Ukraine. As of 2024, War Child’s operations shifted entirely to Ukraine with the focus on child protection (CP) and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in implementing evidence-based interventions for the well-being of children and caregivers.
