Job Description:
Still I Rise is an international NGO focused on the development and implementation of humanitarian projects aimed at the education and support of migrant and local children and youth in vulnerable situations. We are looking for a social and community worker to join the Still I Rise Academy of Aden, Yemen. The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing selection of candidates for the program. This process includes active participation on the ground. In a second phase, the candidate's mission is to support students and advocate for their emotional, mental and physical well-being in collaboration with the psychosocial team. Duties include counseling students, connecting at-risk students with helpful resources, and making home visits to provide additional support. The candidate will also need to be able to articulate the mission of Still I Rise with other projects, NGOs and initiatives that already have a presence and experience in the locality. This will be done under the close supervision of the program manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create a continuously growing database of local boys and girls who meet our requirements to be called to the selection process.
- Regularly participate in the work tables, committees and other events organized by the territorial entities.
- Support students, under the guidance of the school counselor.
- Make home visits to students and prospects to assess their needs. And being very alert to risk situations.
- Working to maximize students' coping skills in difficult situations.
- Offering mentoring programs for students under the guidance of the psychosocial team.
- Identifying problems in the school environment, such as bullying or aggressive behavior.
- Interview parents and teachers of students facing problems to update their records in collaboration with the psychosocial team.
- Support in the selection process of new students entering the school.
- Promote the general welfare of students. And activate care routes in case of restoration of rights.
- Work with external agencies to provide support to families.
- Establish close relationships with different agents and community leaders such as NGOs, local mayoral initiatives, among others.
- Articulate Still I Rise efforts with other relevant initiatives.
- Support the administration officer in maintaining student files and medical records.
Essential Skills and Competencies:
- Degree in a specialized technical or professional field relevant to the position (e.g., social work, child protection, children's rights, psychology, occupational therapy, sociology)
- Proven experience with case management and referrals
- Experience working with vulnerable children and adolescents and communities
- Experience working with IDPs, refugees community, displaced/migrant children
- Commitment and ability to adapt to a changing environment and manage multiple priorities
- High level of accountability for work.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Good IT skills, including use of MS Office, Google Drive and Slack.
- Good command of English desirable
- Know the locality and have had contact with entities present in the territory (grassroots organization, stakeholders and local authority office, among others).
- Knowledge of the process or routes of restoration of rights.
