Netherlands: Research and Influencing Intern - Online Sexual Exploitation of Children, The Hague

About Terre des Hommes: 

Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to protect children by preventing and stopping child exploitation. And by empowering children to make their voices count. the work of Terre des Hommes Netherlands focuses on (Online) Sexual Exploitation of Children, Child Labour and Humanitarian Action. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes Netherlands is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia, Africa and Europe. Join us!

What will you work on:

You will be working on an international research project in Bangladesh, Bolivia and the Netherlands. The specific tasks and projects will be defined in agreement with the intern and will be based on interest, experience and skills. Your tasks may include:

  • Supporting the analysis and write up of the data collected;
  • Supporting research dissemination events, such as stakeholder meetings, youth workshops and webinars;
  • Contribute to writing and preparing reports, policy briefs and advocacy knowledge products, where you’ll need to translate complex information into digestible formats. Ability to use Canva would be a plus;
  • Engage with different regional teams (East Africa, Asia and Europe) while working on research and advocacy initiatives. Have the chance to deep dive into a topic that interests you, from our research and influencing portfolios, and write content for our website or briefs to share internally;
  • Supporting the development and carrying out of lobby and advocacy initiatives on national or regional level;
  • Participate in team meetings, workshops and training sessions.

If a thesis is a mandatory component of your studies, we are happy to discuss the possibility of combining this with your internship and looking for opportunities for you to contribute towards our research agenda.

The intern will be part of the Research, Expertise and Influencing team. This person will receive practical hands-on experience in a dynamic work environment, offering exposure to diverse tasks within the realm of child protection.

We are looking for a motivated and hands-on intern, who:

  • Is currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g., social and behavioural sciences, social work, public policy, international law, child rights, etc.).
  • Has good organisational skills.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of child protection issues.
  • Demonstrable experience with either research or influencing activities.
  • Has good oral and written communication skills in English and Dutch.
  • Is sensitive to cultural diversity and has a commitment to ethical practice.
