Syria: Emergency Response Coordinator

Tdh:

Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh) is the leading Swiss NGO focusing on child rights. It is active in more than 30 countries with development and emergency projects. Tdh focuses its action on the 3 following areas of intervention: Health, Migration and Child Protection of particularly vulnerable children. Modern management and communication tools ensure the quality of Tdh’s projects. The Foundation constantly aims to improve its services.

Context:

To respond to the severe earthquake that struck Northern and Coastal governorates of Syria on February 6, 2023, Tdh and its partner Syrian Society for Social Development (SSSD) will provide immediate and long-term assistance to those who sought refuge in emergency shelters and/or are at risks or face protection risks in the aftermath of the earthquake. Such assistance will include the distribution of basic non-food items as well as protection services for children in the coming weeks to meet urgent shelter and hygiene needs and arising child protection risks and psychosocial support to children and caregivers over the coming months to address emotional distress and safety issues. Children, including unaccompanied/separated children and children with disabilities will be a particular focus of the proposed intervention. We will target Aleppo and Lattakia which has the highest needs and lowest number of actors respectively as indicated by OCHA data.

Responsibilities:

The ER coordinator coordinates the Emergency Response to the Syrian crisis in the different program locations of the emergency project. S/he is responsible for the quality and timely implementation of the projects – comprising all stages of the PM cycle. S/he is expected to travel between the different place of work in Syria (Aleppo, Lattakia, Rural Damascus).

Profile: 

Education:

  • University degree in relevant field

Experience:

  • At least 5 years previous experience of seniority in an NGO at a management position in the field (expatriation) and in a similar context
  • Successful track record of developing humanitarian strategies and securing high levels of funding from institutional donors
  • Extensive project management experience (management, budgeting, grants management, planning, staff development and training skills) in emergency
  • Management experience, mainly functional management and coordination

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge on Child Protection a plus
  • Ability to work as a team and punctually under pressure
  • A commitment to excellence, attention to detail

Languages:

  • Excellent oral and writing skills in English, knowledge of Arabic is an asset

Conditions: 

  • Salary: Expatriate contract under Swiss regulations CHF5000 to CHF 5600 gross /month -according to experience - x13
  • Annual Leaves: 25 days/year
  • Living conditions: local accommodation and transportation
  • Other: Health insurance, accident and medical repatriation insurance, flights from/to duty station
