Ukraine: Education/Protection Specialist (National Position)
Role: Protection/Education Specialist
Duty Station: Poltava or Kharkiv (visits to Sumska, Donetska, Dnipropetrovska, and Zaporizka oblasts)
Period: 6 months with possible extension (2 months of probation period)

Language Proficiency:

Aim of the Position: Under the supervision of the Project Manager, to contribute to the implementation of Education, General and Child Protection activities and development of AVSI Ukraine strategy and staff expertise in protection services.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Study of the UN, international, and national standards of quality educational and protection services such as psychosocial and psychological support for children and adults, case management, and provision of specific services for people with disability;
- Actively participate in the UN clusters of Education, Protection and the related sub-working groups;
- Monitoring and mentoring of partners in the provision of education and protection services;
- Provision of trainings to teachers in the context of EiE
- Contextualization of AVSI Child Friendly Spaces guidelines for the identification of project locations and the establishment of CFS and TLC according to AVSI and international standards in collaboration with AVSI’s Security Officer;
- Supporting the capacity building of project staff by conducting training and workshops on Psychosocial Support (PSS);
- Coordination of the activities of the PSS staff and the related activities on the field;
- Ensure psychosocial support is appropriately reflected in the programme documents, when requested;
- Coordinating the field staff in activities of outreach and case management;
- Collect and provide information and awareness on child protection risks; under the supervision of HQ CP working group;
- Contribute to the development and consolidation of the strategy of intervention of AVSI in the context of the Ukrainian crisis
- Be the Child Safeguarding Focal Point for any complaint and feedback regarding Child Safeguarding aspects;
- Any other relevant duty required
Essential Requirements:
- Degree and professional qualification in education, social services, psychology, psychiatry, or other relevant fields
- Excellent communication in Ukrainian (C1) and good written and verbal communication in English (B1)
- Excellent knowledge of the Ukrainian context and social services structure at the national, regional, and local level
Work Experience:
- Minimum 2 years working experience in the educational or protection sector including work with social and psychological services.
Required Skills and Experiences:
Hard Skills:
- Experience with NGOs represents a great asset
- Excellent organizational skill functional to perform under minimal supervision
- Experience as a trainer in the relevant sectors
- Aptitude to field work with availability to travel to project locations
- Knowledge of general and child protection and MHPSS intervention programs within the humanitarian context
- Knowledge of Ukrainian national educational system including NUS standards and vocational education standards
- Knowledge of humanitarian standards (CHS, Sphere, MSCP, Code of Conduct, CPiE, IASC MHPSS, IASC Case Management, etc.)
- Ability to carry out community assessment with standardized and non-standardized tools, with particular attention to the ability to carry out adequate assessment of the context and educational and psycho-social needs of affected communities
