Job Title: Child Protection Consultant

The Child Protection Consultant, under the supervision of the Program Director and in collaboration with other Technical Specialists and Area Program Managers, is responsible for the conceptualization, design and quality improvement of all FHP projects in child protection and gender-related initiatives.

The Child Protection Consultant acts as the Country Office focal person for Child Protection processes and activities.

He/she is expected to provide technical support in the development of proposals, concept notes, policy papers and sector-specific reports. In addition, s/he shall conduct a desk review of FHP’s current action plans, activity design, and other project documents with child-protection elements.

The Child Protection Consultant collaborates with the Partnerships and Advocacy Unit in the monitoring of activity implementation and adheres to minimum sector standards and good practices

Description of Services

  • FHP engages the Child Protection Consultant to provide services as specified in the Scope of Work
  • Child Protection Consultant shall coordinate with the Program Director for his/her deliverable under the Service Agreement.

Scope of Work

The Child Protection Consultant is primarily responsible to:

Key Result #1: Program Development, Quality & Implementation

  • Conceptualize activities in child-protection; and apply strategies to develop and implement relevant and innovative projects;
  • Review the on going and past activities of FHP relative to Child Protection and incorporate minimum standards and good practices for development and humanitarian settings;
  • Develop/co-create contextualized FH Sector Quality standard checklist for child-protection;
  • Validate technical reports to ensure compliance to protection-related mechanism, policies and procedures
  • Evaluate protection program/project inputs and output for input to next planning session
  • Strengthen technical excellence of Team in child-protection (and CPiE) through capacity-building activities like training, facilitation of learning/brown-bag sessions, mentoring and coaching, etc.;

Key Result #2: Safeguarding

  • Review and provide input to and support the implementation of the Safeguarding Policy; ensuring that it adequately meets the CO needs while remaining compliant with global standards;

Period of Performance

This consultancy is effective January 3, 2023 to March 2, 2023 (2 months).

Location of Assignment

The Child Protection Consultant is expected to balance remote-work with physical time in FHP -Central Office as well as visits to other Area Program, as required.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelors’ Degree in International Development, Social Sciences/ Social Work or any related field. Graduates of other courses may be considered if he/ she has the experience and competency requirements of the post. A Masters' Degree would be an advantage.

Experience:

With at least 5-7 years’ experience in conceptualization, design, development, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of projects in development organizations (consecutive experience is preferred,); Experience working on projects related to ending poverty and child rights-based programming is necessary. Strong background in child-protection and gender-related projects, preferably funded by a diverse set of funding institutions.
