Primary Prevention for the Protection of Children and Adolescents in Humanitarian Action! 

What will you learn?

The Primary Prevention Framework for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action was published by the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action in 2021. The Alliance's Learning and Development Working Group in cooperation with the Global Protection Cluster's Child Protection Accountability Hub would like to offer you a free online learning opportunity to further explore the framework to strengthen understanding of primary prevention in child protection in humanitarian action. The course will provide an introduction to prevention programming and allow you to reflect on how the Primary Prevention Framework for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action is relevant to your context.

What will you achieve?

At the end of the online course you will be able to:

  • Define prevention in child protection in humanitarian action.
  • Discuss the eight guiding principles for CPHA prevention programming
  • Explain the five steps of prevention programming and give examples of how these can be applicable in your own context
  • Describe opportunities and challenges associated with prevention programming in child protection in humanitarian action.

The Course: 

The course is free of charge and consists of 2 sessions taught in Spanish which are mandatory in order to obtain a certificate: 

Tuesday 21st March | 9:00 - 12:00 (Panama Time): 

  • Welcome and introductions
  • Goals and expectations
  • What is Prevention in Humanitarian Action?
  • Principle for prevention interventions

Thursday 23rd March | 9:00 - 12:00 (Panama Time):

  • Key steps for primary prevention in the programme cycle management
  • Challenges and opportunities for prevention programmes
  • Questions and answers
  • Conclusions and evaluation

Sessions will be delivered remotely via Zoom and will include presentations, group work and individual activities. Sessions are interactive and will not be recorded.

Who is this course for?

Child protection practitioners in humanitarian action and child protection in development settings from governments, UN agencies, international NGOs, local NGOs, civil society organisations, etc. are invited to express their interest in this course.
